As the leader of the new historicism theory school,Greenblatt s new historicism thought can be described as being broad and profound.Among them,the anecdotal thought can show the unique side of his new historical thought.Anecdotes are not often known to all,emphasizing things that the world no longer knows but is particularly interested in.Both in Greenblatt s works and in his ideological system,anecdotal thought plays an important role.This paper tries to discuss the new historical thought from three aspects:the subversion of anecdote to the traditional view of history,the narrative construction strategy of anecdote,and the touch of historical truth.Besides,this paper tries to evaluate the thought of anecdote by combining theory with practice:the anecdotal thought is helpful to excavate the“true”appearance of history.
