Re-evaluation of the Contemporary Values of Greenburg’s Criticisms of American “Abstract Expressionism”

作为20世纪美国最重要的艺术批评家之一,格林伯格推动了美国"抽象表现主义"作为一种范式而写进艺术史。但是,对于格林伯格及其批评的争议历来不断,演绎出一连串复杂的问题与争议。本文试图在厘清格林伯格对美国"抽象表现主义"批评渊源流变的基础上澄清争议,还原事实,并在当代语境中重估格林伯格"抽象表现主义"批评的价值。

As one of the most important American art critics in the 20 th century, Greenberg has made the American "Abstract Expressionism" as a significant paradigm in the history of painting. However, the controversy about Greenberg and his criticisms has never reached an assent conclusion;Instead, it deduces a series of complicated problems and disputations. This paper attempts to clarify the controversy and restore facts on the basis of tracing back the origin and evolution of Greenberg’s criticisms of "Abstract Expressionism", and reevaluate his teachings under the contemporary context.
