My Academic Path (8):Accumulating and Improving the Research Ability of Classical Chinese Novels in the Compilation of Reference Books

本文回顾总结作者在上世纪八十年代至九十年代中期在参与各种古代小说辞典工具书编写中所获得的学术锻炼和积累。作者参编的工具书主要包括:侯忠义主编的《中国历代小说辞典》(第一册)、刘叶秋主编的《中国古典小说大辞典》、刘世德主编的《中国古代小说百科全书》等。这些工作从文献材料积累到归纳概括能力提升等方面,为作者后来撰写《中国志人小说史》和《中国文言小说总目提要》等个人学术专著积累了丰富的材料和经验。

This paper reviews the author’s academic training and accumulation in the compilation of dictionaries of ancient novels from the 1980s to the mid-1990s.The reference books that the author participated in compiling mainly include:The Dictionary of Chinese Novels in Different Dynasties edited by Hou Zhongyi (the first volume),The Dictionary of Chinese Classical Novels edited by Liu Yeqiu,and The Encyclopedia of Chinese Ancient Novels edited by Liu Shide.In terms of the accumulation of literature materials and the improvement of the ability of induction and generalization,the author has accumulated rich materials and experience for him to write personal academic monographs such as The History of Chinese Fantastic Stories and The General Catalog of Classical Chinese Novels.
