图里翻译规范视角下余国藩英译《西游记》研究

The Study on Anthony C Yu s Translation of Journey to the West from the Perspective of Toury s Translation Norms

本文以图里的翻译规范为理论框架,从预备规范、初始规范和操作规范三个层面再现余国藩整个翻译行为的过程,并分析他在这一过程中的翻译选择、翻译思想和翻译策略,找出余译《西游记》获得成功的原因。研究发现,余国藩对源语文本的选择受个体和社会文化环境的影响,其“似真”和“阐释”的翻译思想及以全译、直译为主,意译、音译为辅的翻译策略融合了源语和译入语的双重文化规范,使《西游记》在目的语国家广泛传播,为中国典籍文学“走出去”提供了新的启示和思路。

This paper attempts to reproduce the whole process of professor Yu s translation behavior from three levels:preliminary standard,initial standard and operational standard based on the theoretical framework of Toury s translation norms,and analyze his translation decision,translation concepts and translation strategies in this process,which helps to find the reasons for his success of the translation of Journey to the West in the west.It is found out that Yu s selection of source text is influenced by individual and social cultural environment.His translation concepts of“verisimilitude”and“interpretation”and translation strategies of giving emphasis to full and literal translation with free translation and transliteration as supplements greatly blend the source language and target language cultural norms,which promote the spread of Journey to the West and provide a new inspiration and thought for the“going out”of the classical Chinese literature.
