Inspired by Gottfried Semper’s theory,many Viennese architects had actively explored potential expressions of different materials in their design,including wood,since the end of the 19 th century.The article focuses on different strategies of wood application in the design of three Viennese architects:Joze Plecnik,Adolf Loos,and Hermann Czech.The study reveals close connection between theoretical background of the architects and their detailed designs.It also shows the potential of wood in current architectural design works.
