With the proposal of the "Belt and Road Initiative",the concept of cultural routes has re-entered people’s vision. In2014,the Silk Road was included in the World Heritage List. At the same time, the "Tang Poetry Road" was proposed based on the excellent traditional culture such as Chinese landscape poetry, and the "Red Tourism Route" that combines red tourism with natural landscape gradually emerged. How to explore the rich connotation of cultural heritage, and to promote local development while reviving traditional culture? We may learn from the development experience of similar foreign heritage. Through the retrieval of Web of Science database and by using Citespace,we sort out and analyze the cultural route research literature of foreign countries. It is found that foreign literature pays more attention to the connotation and essential characteristics of cultural route heritage and analyzes its motivation and experience from the perspective of visitors and tourists. With the development of mass tourism, researchers are increasingly paying attention to the impact of tourism activities on traditional pilgrimages and the integration of the two in a time-spaced context.
