在族群关系敏感与族群政治盛行的马来西亚,华人一直是受到歧视和打压的对象。华人对自我身份的认同是影响马华族群关系发展和马来西亚族群政治整合的关键因素。与马来西亚独立前华人的认同相对比,致使华人在独立后的身份认同发生转变的最重要因素是马来西亚的族群政治。族群政治的曲折走向使华人的族群认同与国家认同呈现出从冲突对抗到缓和调谐的趋势,20世纪90年代后逐渐温和的族群政治整合方式建构了华人多重认同之间的张力。

In Malaysia,where ethnic relation is sensitive and ethnicpolitics is prominent,overseas Chinese have traditionally been discriminated against and suppressed.Self-identity of overseas Chinese is the key factor that affects the development of Malaysian-Chinese ethnic relations and the political integration of Malaysian ethnic groups.Compared with the identity of overseas Chinese in Malaysia before independence,the most important factor leading to the transformation of the identity of overseas Chinese after independence is the ethnic politics of Malaysia.The tortuous trend of ethnic politics makes the ethnic identity and national identity of Chinese show a trend from conflict to adjustment.Gradual mild way of ethnic political integration after the 1990s has constructed the tension among the multiple identities of Chinese.
