《聊斋志异》中梦小说的主要特点是新奇而又多样。新奇首先表现为对此前中国的梦小说的继承而又出新,既体现为主题的变化或发展,也体现为独具匠心地写梦;多样在内容方面表现为突破了此前梦小说的单一主题,而主题丰富多样,揭露社会、表现爱情、展示哲理是最主要的三大类,在写梦的形式方面则有整个梦、断续梦、梦中梦、零散梦等多种。

The main feature of dream novels in Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio is their originality and diversity,of which originality,though being a succession to the former Chinese dream novel,lies in the innovation demonstrated not only in the change or development of the theme,but also in the creative depiction of dreams.As to its diversity,it is mainly embodied in its content,which makes a breakthrough in its monotonousness and is rich in the theme that includes the three main types:revealing social reality,expressing love and displaying philosophy.Besides,in the terms of the types of dreams,there are contained whole dreams,intermittent dreams,dreams in a dream,scattered dreams and so on.
