晚清湖北士人杨守敬在与友朋交际中逐渐跨出“地方”,甚至走出国门,成为受国人瞩目的“国中士”。在社会变动的大潮之下,他的生活陷入困顿,故通过卖字鬻书来解决生计问题。辛亥革命后,杨守敬的藏书事业也遭遇了困境。从杨守敬身上可以透视晚清社会转型中一般士人的生活境遇。

Yang Shoujing,a scholar from Hubei in the late Qing Dynasty,gradually stepped out of his living place and even went abroad in communicating with his friends,and he attracted the attention of the Chinese people.Under the tide of social change,his life was in a dilemma,so he solved the problem of livelihood by selling calligraphy.After the Revolution of 1911,Yang Shoujing's book collection career also encountered difficulties.From Yang Shoujing,we can see the life conditions of ordinary scholars in the social transformation of the late Qing Dynasty.
