Jiangxi Clan Association and Its Function of Clan Collecting in Qing Dynasty: A Case Study of Yifeng County

清代江西宗族势力活跃得益于族会产业的兴盛,族会以敬宗收族为宗旨,以股份合作、轮值管理、账目公开为原则,倡立各种基金支撑宗族内外各项公益事业。敬宗收族、光前裕后、乐善好施的族会善举背后,融汇宗法伦理与经济理性的管理智慧,激发了族众参与宗族事务的热情和动力,并将公益事业与私人股份利益结合,做到义利合一、公私兼顾。

In Qing dynasty, the clan power in Jiangxi was active because of the prosperity of the clan association industry. The clan association, with the tenet of respecting the clan and collecting the clan,advocated various funds to support various public welfare undertakings inside and outside the clan based on the principles of stock cooperation, rotation management and open accounts. Behind the good deeds of the clans, the management wisdom of the clan ethics and economic rationality is integrated, which stimulates the enthusiasm and motivation of the clans to participate in the clan affairs,and ingeniously combines the public welfare undertakings with the interests of private shares, so as to achieve the unity of justice and interests and the consideration of both public and private.
