The First Visit to China of the American Sinologist Berthold Laufer

本文通过对芝加哥菲尔德自然史博物馆所藏美国东方学家、汉学家巴托尔德·劳费尔书信的分析,系统论述了劳费尔于1901年至1904年间的中国考察经历,指出这次考察为美国汉学的发展积累了丰硕的研究材料,同时也对劳费尔的个人汉学研究产生了重要影响。

This paper analyzes the expedition to China,1901-1904,of the American Sinologist Berthold Laufer.It is based on his letters written during this field trip that are now in the Field Museum of Natural History.The paper shows how this expedition had a significant effect on the development of American Sinology and Laufer’s academic research.
