徐日昇的中国佛教观

Thomas Pereira’s Views on Chinese Buddhism

本文根据葡萄牙耶稣会传教士徐日昇撰写的《中国佛教论》,考察和探讨他对中国佛教的认识。徐日昇在《中国佛教论》中描述了释迦牟尼佛的生平,对佛教思想则站在一神教的立场上,基于个人的主观臆断,对其进行诋毁和批判。他的中国佛教观完全囿于西方的思维定式,以基督信仰标准对佛教的武断判定,存在许多谬误,歪曲了中国佛教形象。

Based on Tratado do Budismo Sínico written by the Portuguese Jesuit Thomas Pereira(1645—1708),this paper investigates and explores Pereira’s understanding of Chinese Buddhism.Pereira’s views on Buddhism in China were from the standpoint of monotheism.Following his subjective assumptions,he denigrated and criticized Buddhism in China.Because of his Christian beliefs,Pereira’s view and interpretation of Buddhist images were limited and distorted.
