Kazuo Ishiguro is an outstanding Japanese-American British writer.His literary creation has been devoted to exploring and writing international themes,focusing on the plight and spiritual state of people living in different cultural backgrounds,and pursuing the universal value of literary works.Never Let Me Go(2005)is Ishiguro’s latest masterpiece.It is a work defined by morality as the loss of soul.It is also a work that explores whether social progress can be achieved at the expense of cruel sacrifice.It was nominated for the most important award in English literature,“Booker Prize”.In this novel,Kazuo Ishiguro uses the existence and lifestyle of cloned human beings as metaphors to interrogate the value and significance of the existence of human beings,especially marginalized groups in society.From the perspective of Sartre’s existentialism,this paper makes an in-depth analysis of the character and fate of the main cloned characters in the novel.The clones in the novel have an optimistic and tolerant attitude towards the world.They accept all kinds of objective external and spiritual dilemmas in life with a calm mind,actively make all kinds of choices in life,and realize the limitless meaning of life.Life is a predicament that mankind can never get out of,but it is in the predicament that we constantly strive for self-improvement,reflecting the value and significance of existence.
