Xu Zhaoshou’s novel Kumarajiva has both artistic and academic qualities.With the attitude of high attention to ecological issues of China,the author has created characters such as Kumārajīva,a great virtuous monk,who spiritually has saved the people from worldly desires.This novel explores the holistic concept and spiritual ecological resources in Chinese traditional culture,which provides a useful reference for us to re-examine western culture and Chinese traditional culture in the context of globalization,especially to further explore the spiritual resources in China’s outstanding traditional culture and to be out of the current ecological dilemma facing mankind.
