On the Methods and Significance of Material Processing in Liu Xiang's Xin Xu

《新序》一书是西汉刘向在校理国家图书时,广采经子史群书加以改编加工而成。为了更好地发挥“以著述当谏书”的作用,刘向对众多的材料进行了改编加工,包括增饰情节、删减文章内容、梳理情节整合成篇、附加评论等,通过这样的加工修饰,突出并深化了故事的主题,使内容更具体真实、更有说服力。

Copiously quoting authoritative works,Liu Xiang adapted and processed Xin Xu when he was revising national books in the Western Han Dynasty.In order to better play the role of"writing as remonstrating",Liu Xiang adapted and processed many texts including adding plot,deleting the content of the article,combing the plot and integrating into an article,accompanying editorial etc.Through such processing and modification,the theme of the story is highlighted and deepened,which makes the content more concrete,real and convincing.
