On the English Translation of Four-Character Chinese Phrases:New Observations Based on MTI Classroom Teaching

汉语的四字格词语因其丰富的文化内涵往往成为翻译实践中的一个难点,对于初涉译事的翻译专业学生而言,尤其如此。本文从日常的MTI课堂教学出发,通过长期观察,在积累大量第一手译例并进行条分缕析的基础上,就汉语四字格词语英译中所出现的各种问题及其症结所在与可能的应对之策提出自己的见解,以期引起对这一问题的进一步探讨。

This paper discusses the reception of existing English versions of some Chinese new words on the basis of a questionnaire survey. After analyzing the data,the author summarizes the factors that can influence the reception of these translations and proposes corresponding strategies to ensure effective communication of Chinese new words to English audience in cultural exchange.
