A Marxist Scholar Devoted to Anthropology and Tibetan Studies for 40 Years——An Interview with Dr Gelek, the First Anthropological Doctor Educated in New China

格勒是我国培养的第一位人类学博士,也是新中国第一位藏族博士。格勒博士从事人类学、藏学教研工作四十余年,期间撰写了大量专业性强、理论水平高的学术论著,尤其是改革开放后应邀出访20多个国家讲学交流,在国际藏学界享有颇高的声望和影响。文章结合格勒博士的个人学术生活史,围绕人类学和藏学研究的历史、现状及未来,以及新时代人类学家和藏学家必须具备的基本条件、研究方法,青年一代学者的田野工作、文献阅读和语言能力等学术要求等进行了深度访谈。

Dr Gelek is the first doctor in anthropology and the first Tibetan doctor educated in New China.He has been engaged in the teaching and research of anthropology and Tibetan studies for more than 40 years.During these years,he has written a large number of professional and theoretical works of high quality.In particular,he has been invited to more than 20 countries to give lectures after the Reform and Opening up of China.He has enjoyed a high reputation and become an influential scholar in the circle of international Tibetan studies.The article contains an in-depth interview with Dr Gelek on the topics of the history,current situation and prospects of anthropology and Tibetan studies,and the basic qualities that anthropologists and Tibetologists must have,and the research methods they must master in the new era,as well as young scholars’abilities in doing field work,reading literature and their language competence.
