船山对《礼记》中"礼尚往来"命题的承继,创造性地开显了蕴涵于其中的君子之道。仁义既是君子之为君子的内在本质特性,又是藏于礼之中的价值内核。君子秉持仁义以行礼能够彰显"大中至正而不远乎人"的君子之道。君子对于以礼接待他者的人,一定要以礼回应他;君子对于以礼回应他者的人,更要以礼接待他。个人道德的善在礼尚往来这一社会伦理行为中得以扩充,社会整体在人与人往来劝善中总体向善。
