The Changes of WEN Ting-shi’s Ci-poetry After the Jiawu Year

甲午年是文廷式词作创作的一个转折点,甲午一役清廷败绩后,时局的变化给文廷式内心造成巨大的震动,使得其甲午年后的词作更加关注现实,创作了许多词史之作;怀着对清朝国祚的焦虑,其词作里出现许多亡国意象与典故;而欲有所为却被削职的现实,又使得其词作中出现了出、处并存的主体意识。

The year of Jiawu(1894)was a turning point for the creation of WEN Ting-shi’s Ci-poetry.After the defeat of Qing Dynasty in the Sino-Japanese War that year,WEN Ting-shi suffered such huge shock from the turbulence of the time that his Ci works thereafter focused more on the reality,many recording the history of the time.Full of anxiety towards the Qing Dynasty,he used many images and allusions to a conquered nation in his works.Moreover,he showed the contradictory subject consciousness of official engagement or reclusion upon the reality of being cut off from his official position when he desired to make a difference.
