New Liberal Arts, Thinking Mode and Academic Innovation

一时代有一时代的文科,一时代有一时代的认识方式和思维方式。从传统文科到新文科,是从简单性方法到复杂性方法的转变,是从还原论到整体论的转换。新文科的发展,不是对传统文科的否定和颠覆,而是传统文科的与时俱进、自我转型、自我变革,要求多学科、跨学科、超学科的开放、交流、交叉、交融,建构新的学术共同体和研究平台,催生新学科、新专业、新方法、新范式,培养跨学科复合型人才。新文科所带来的复杂性、整体论的思维方式的转换,特别是复杂性、系统性、整体性的研究方法,以及新文科的学科交叉融合,特别是"从自然科学奔向社会科学的潮流",成为学术创新的两个关键。

An era has the liberal arts of that era with the understanding and thinking of that particular era. The transition from traditional liberal arts to new liberal arts is a transition from simplicity to complexity, and a transition from reductionism to holism. The development of new liberal arts is not the negation and subversion, but the advancement, self-transformation, and self-evolution of the traditional one, which requires multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary opening, communication, crossover, and integration to construct a new academic community and research platform, fostering new disciplines, new professions, new methodologies, new paradigms, and training of transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary talents. The complexity brought about by the new liberal arts, the transformation of the holistic approach to thinking(especially the complexity, systematic and holistic research methods), and the interdisciplinary integration of new liberal arts(especially "the trend of transition from natural science to social science), constitute two keys to academic innovation.
