Image of the Village Party Secretary in Contemporary Chinese Literature

在中国当代农村题材的文学作品中,村支书是常见的重要人物形象之一。按照相应的历史分期,已形成了十七年文学中的村支书、“文革”文学中的村支书、新时期文学中的村支书三代形象。新时期以来的第三代村支书形象,又主要呈现为横行霸道的“土皇帝”、人性扭曲的弄权者、时代政治的牺牲品、为百姓谋利益的好干部这样四个序列。正是透过村支书形象家族的流变、分化及特征,读者可以更为深切地感触到中国当代社会、尤其是农村社会历史脉搏的律动,亦可进一步看出中国当代文学创作的嬗变与得失。

In contemporary Chinese literature on rural themes,the village party secretary is one of the most important characters.In different historical stages,there have appeared three generations of village party secretaries in literature of the first 17 years,literature of the Cultural Revolution period and literature of the new era.Since the new era,the images of the third-generation village party secretaries have mainly fallen into four categories:domineering“local tyrants”,manipulators with a distorted human nature,victims of current politics,and good cadres working for the interests of the people.It is through the transformation,differentiation and characteristics of the images of village party secretaries that readers can have more insights into contemporary Chinese society,especially the history of rural society,and learn further about the evolution and gains and losses of contemporary Chinese literature.
