At the beginning of the 20th century,Okinawans immigrated to Hawaii both out of the thrust of Okinawa and the attraction from Hawaii.The social unrest in Okinawa area at the turn of the 20th century was the thrust of Okinawa people to immigrate to overseas areas.On the other hand,the fact that at this time,the Hawaiian plantation economy was booming and required a lot of labors,and yet with the annexation of Hawaii in 1898,the United States abolished contract labor and caused a massive loss of Hawaiian labors,is the pull for Okinawa immigrants.The unremitting efforts of Yamaguchi and others contributed to the final realization of Okinawa migration.
