Social network based on kinship and geographic ties has become an important channel for rural-urban migrant population to transmit information and achieve employment. How will it affect migrant workers’choice of settlement when rural-urban migrant population achieve employment through social network?By building theoretical model and making empirical analysis, the aforementioned problems are studied from the theoretical and empirical level.By building a theoretical model of labor migration on interregional equilibrium, this paper deduces and analyses the micro-mechanism of the formation of the homeplace-based settlement in big cities.Firstly, analysis of theoretical model indicates that employment through social networks will make rural-urban migrant population tend to choose to live with their fellow townsman rather than local people.Secondly,Using data of Rural-Urban Migration in China(RUMiC)and survey data of social integration of migrant population in China by the National Health and Family Planning Commission, this paper makes an empirical analysis. The study finds that rural-urban migrant population who achieve employment through social networks tend to choose to live with their fellow townsman rather than local people, while this behavior of settlement is not conducive for them to integrate into the city. The results are still robust, after using CMP method to deal with endogeneity and propensity score matching method to deal with sample selection errors.
