The paper speaks highly of the Writing for Print:Publishing and the Making of Textual Authority in Late Imperial China written by Suyoung Son.The book researches into the history of publishing and the history of the book from a fresh perspective. In discussion, the book not only questions popular ideas on the history of print but also makes new assumptions which are justified in a scientific manner. The paper hopes Suyoung Son could further her discussion of the making of textual authority by self-publishing in China in the 19th century and talk about her opinions on the relationship between such self-publishing practice and the bourgeoning of modern newspapers and periodicals in late Qing Dynasty.
