Columbia University Libraries(CUL) started its Strategic Directions process in fall 2015 in order to articulate the institutional aspirations and chart CUL’s new future directions.The strategic directions are set up to commit to inclusion,advance knowledge,inspire inquiry,catalyze discovery,shape discourse and empower staff.This paper intends to examine and evaluate the process,the accomplishments,the outcomes and the results up to date.It also gives an introduction to the trends of strategic planning and strategic directions in North American university libraries,as well as the unexpected factors of strategy decision making and implementing.
