认知-功能视域下英语群体量词的汉译研究

Translation of English Group Classifiers: A Cognitive and Functional Perspective

英语群体量词是指当人或动物以群体形式出现时,英语使用者频繁使用的特殊的、类似汉语量词的表达。在翻译实践中,对英语群体量词的处理相对简单,一般按汉语习惯直接译作"一群"或"一队"。这种简单的归化翻译虽然有助于目的语受众的认可、接纳,但也不可避免地掩盖,甚至抹杀了源语文化的特点及其与目的语文化之间的巨大差异。本文借助认知语言学和功能语言学的理论分析工具,以体认原则和概念语法隐喻为切入点,分析英语群体量词的发生机制及其在源语和目的语中的不同体现,揭示英语群体量词归化翻译的局限性,并提出相关汉译建议。

Although the domestication method helps the target readers to better understand,it inevitably obscures the characteristics of the source culture and its differences with the target culture. On the basis of relevant theories in cognitive linguistics and functional linguistics,with the embodied cognitive principle and ideational grammatical metaphor as the tool,this paper analyzes the generative mechanism of English group classifiers and their different representations in the source language and the target language,revealing the limitations of translating English group classifiers domestically. Based on the above analysis,the paper also gives suggestions to improve Chinese translation of English group classifiers.
