As the first stage of comparative literature,the French school occupies an important position in the history of this subject.It’s representative Jean-Marie Carrédefined“comparative literature”clearly in the preface to the first edition of comparative literature.By analyzing the background of this preface,comparative literature is a branch of literary history,and focusing on positivist research methods,it can be seen that the French school has an attitude of seeking truth from facts and a strict scientific approach.At the same time,we can also find the critical role of French scholars in the standardization of the discipline system of comparative literature.
