The article illustrates the characteristics of varistor and gas discharge tube and their use in switching power supply alone or in series.At the same time,the requirements of the varistor in IEC 60950-1:2013 are detailed analyzed with the unqualified examples in type test and corrective plan to help testing engineer to better understand the standard.
