By examining the scattered pictorial bricks unearthed from the two Southern Dynastiestombs in Shizichong, Nanjing along with the brick pictures depicting the Imperial Guard of Honor unearthedfrom the tombs in Xiantangwan and Jinjiacun in Danyang, this study analyzed the meanings of the inscrip tions on the bricks, restored their supposed positions in the composition, and concluded the rules that wereapplied in piecing together these bricks to form a picture. In doing this, it is also discovered that the pictureson the scattered bricks from M1 and M2 are from the same sketch that was used by some of the pictures onthe bricks in the tombs in Jinjiacun and Wujiacun. These scattered bricks from M1 and M2 were likely to bethe bricks made for the imperial tombs of the Southern Qi and were then used as ordinary tomb bricks afterthe replacement of the Qi by the Liang.
