A Study of Culture in Metaphor from the English Metaphor Life is a Show

本文从认知模型和文化模式的视角,对汉语"人生是一场表演"概念隐喻进行系统的研究。研究表明,中国文化语境下的表演艺术认知模型是以戏曲为中心的,戏曲是主导整个表演艺术认知模型的中心元素。"人生是一场表演"概念隐喻在汉语中有非常丰富而系统的语言例示,由于"人生是一场表演"概念隐喻的源域是以戏曲为中心的,这使得它的许多语言例示具有中国文化独特性。"人生是一场表演"概念隐喻在中国人概念化人生事件和现象中扮演着重要角色,是构成中国人生文化模式的核心要素。由此可见,隐喻与文化是紧密相连的,文化语境是影响隐喻表达的重要因素。

This paper explores the Chinese conceptual metaphor Life is a show from the perspective of cognitive model and cultural model.The results show that:the cognitive model of performing arts in Chinese culture is opera-centered,and opera is the central element that dominates the whole performing arts cognitive model.Because the source domain of the Show metaphor centers on opera,the Chinese conceptual metaphor Life is a show has a large number of culture-specific linguistic instantiations in Chinese.The metaphor Life is a show plays a significant role in the Chinese conceptualization of events and phenomena in various domains of life,constituting a core component of the Chinese cultural model of life.We draw the conclusion that metaphor is closely connected with culture,and cultural context is a major factor to influence metaphorical expressions.
