Reflections on the Reasons for the Red Army’s Victory in East Expedition

红军东征在短短的75天实现了扩充红军、筹集款项物资、在山西宣传党和红军的抗日主张等重要任务。究其原因,首先是党科学的政策指引,东渡黄河的战略决策、建立抗日民族统一战线的坚定立场、争取张学良杨虎城以保障后方安全缺一不可;其次是正确的军事判断,灵活的军事策略和严明的军队纪律是取得胜利的基石;最后是团结的军民关系,充分发挥人民群众的力量是胜利的根本保证。

In just 75 days, the eastern campaign of the Red Army achieved such important tasks as expanding the Red Army, raising funds and materials, and propagating the Party and the Red Army’s Anti-Japanese propositions in Shanxi. The first is the Party’s scientific policy guidance, the strategic decision to cross the Yellow River to the east, the firm stance of establishing the Anti-Japanese national united front, and the striving for Zhang Xue-liang and Yang Hu-cheng to ensure the rear security are indispensable. Secondly, correct military judgment, flexible military strategy and strict military discipline are the cornerstones for victory. Thirdly, the united military-civilian relationship, giving full play to the strength of the people is the fundamental guarantee of victory.
