Fourteen new varieties(lines)of japonica rice were studied in a field trial carried out in Rencheng District,Jining City,Shandong Province in 2019;they were evaluated with respect to agronomic characters, yield, field resistance, and grain quality. The results showed that the growth periods of the 14 varieties varied from 145 to 168 days,of which three(Jindao 919,Jinyuan 985,and Jinyuan U99)were early maturing varieties, while another three(Kendao 808,yunnongjing 12,and Yudao 16)were late maturing varieties. The yields of the 14 varieties ranged from 513.0 to 740.7 kg/667m^2;of them,Jinjingyou 2186 attained the highest yield, reaching 740.7 kg/667m^2.In terms of grain quality, two varieties(Jindao 939 and Jindao 919)reached the first grade;three varieties(Jinjing 818,Jinyuan U99,and Yudao 16)reached the second grade;and the varieties Shengdao 1712 and 3466 reached the second grade in all indexes except for amylose content index. The above results lay foundations for selecting the japonica rice varieties that have high grain quality and a high-yielding ability, and are suitable for growing after wheat in southern Shandong Province.
