小说《面纱》是作家毛姆的代表作之一。在这部小说中,毛姆刻画了一个有着觉醒与救赎意识的女性角色——凯蒂。凯蒂这种觉醒与救赎意识的产生,主要是源于家庭及失败婚姻的影响,但凯蒂自身刻在骨子里的强烈的依附意识严重影响了她的独立,进而影响了她摆脱依附、救赎自我的决心及彻底程度。所以,从一定程度上说,凯蒂的觉醒和救赎是不彻底的。
The Painted Veil is one of the representative works of the writer Maugham.In this novel,Maugham depicted an awakening and redemption female character Kitty.Kitty’s characteristics mainly originated from the influence of her family and failed marriage,but Kitty’s independence has been af fected by the strong sense of attachment,which deeply infl uenced her determination of redemption.From a certain extent,Kitty’s awakening and redemption is not complete.
