20世纪的明清笑话研究趋向于对宏观问题的研究,成果呈零碎化特点,一些相当重要的研究结论出现在明清笑话选集的序言中。21世纪的明清笑话研究主要集中在以下五个方面:对专人、专书的研究;对明清笑话中类型笑话的研究;对明清笑话的综合性研究;对明清笑话的传播与影响研究;对明清笑话的文类、评点研究。

The research on the jokes of the Ming and Qing dynasties in 20th century tends to study macroscopic issues,and the results are fragmented.Some important ideas can be found in the prefaces of jokes collections in Ming and Qing dynasties.In 21st century,the results of the study focused in the following aspects:study of certain writer or book,study of joke types,integrated study on Ming and Qing jokes,study of the spread and influence of Ming and Qing jokes and the study of their genre and the comments on them.
