典籍英译中文化负载词翻译的难点及对策——以保罗·怀特所译《菜根谭》为例

The Translation of Culture-loaded Words in Chinese Classics--Taking Paul White’s C-E Translation of Tending the Roots of Wisdom as an Example

典籍英译是一个促进中华文化传播的过程,我国典籍涵盖了大量文化负载词,它们如关节一般将上下文联系在一起,文化负载词的翻译质量很大程度上决定了典籍英译的整体效果。因此,如何将典籍中涉及的文化负载词以读者能够接受的方式译出就成了横亘在译者面前的一座大山,具有研究意义。论文以保罗·怀特所译《菜根谭》为例,分析典籍英译中文化负载词翻译的难点,探究相应的翻译对策,从而为如何更好地进行典籍英译提供思路。

The translation of Chinese classics can be regarded as a process of culture transmission.A large amount of culture-loaded words are included in Chinese classics and they can be regarded as the key point which determines the translation quality of Chinese classics.Therefore,how to translate the original works in a way that can be accepted by target readers is an obstacle in front of translators,which has proved to have research significance.Samples are taken from the book so as to find out the challenges and difficulties in the translation of culture-loaded words.By taking Paul White’s C-E translation of Tending the Roots of Wisdom as an example,this paper aims at finding the proper translation strategies so as to improve the translation of culture-loaded words and provide new ideas for the translation of Chinese Classics.
