A Comparison of Hero Motifs in Chinese and Greek Myths

英雄传说是神话传说的一个重要组成部分。中国神话与希腊神话创造了迥异的英雄形象,中国神话中的英雄是救民济世的道德典范,希腊神话中的英雄是倡导个性原则的世俗英雄。在不同英雄形象这一表象背后,中国神话与希腊神话都存在英雄出生、英雄征战和英雄死亡等母题类属,这些母题折射出不同的文化价值观和伦理观。中国神话蕴含着向死而生、生死轮回的精神力量,希腊神话则以英雄同命运的悲剧抗争为鲜明特色,人本主义与命运观念并存。

An important part of Chinese and Greek myths is the legends of heroes.Different images are created,as heroes in Chinese myths are moral models devoted to the people and country,while heroes in Greek myths are secular ones characterized by individualism.Behind different images of heroes lie common motifs such as birth,expeditions,and death of heroes which reflect different cultural values and ethics.The spirits of being towards death and the cycle of birth and death are contained in Chinese myths.The Greek myths are characterized by heroes'tragic struggle against fate and coexistence of humanism and destiny.
