Translation of English Contract into Chinese on Background of“Belt and Road”:From the Perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory

“一带一路”背景下多国合同的签订促进了英文合同汉译成为沿线语言服务的重要领域,但因其具有专业术语繁多、词义晦涩难懂、句子拖沓冗长、语篇结构复杂等语言特征和文体特点导致合同汉译异常困难,译者稍有不慎就会深陷文字歧义或法律漏洞的泥沼。然而,在翻译实践中,以功能对等理论为视角寻求翻译理论与实践的最佳契合点,动态地重构源语的信息,以目的语的形式再现结构严谨、权责明确的合同文本,实现与源语在法律效力上的对等将非难事。

Signing of Multinational Contract Groups on the background of“the Belt and Road”has been promoting translation of English contract into Chinese as the important field of linguistic services along the line.However,having a bit inadvertence,the translators will be sunk deep into the morass of the ambiguous words and legal loopholes because of such characteristics as various professional terms,obscure meanings,long sentences and complex textual structures,which makes it extremely difficult for such contracts to be translated into Chinese.But it is not difficult of the translators can find the best joint point between translation theory and practice from the perspective of functional equivalence theory,dynamically reconstruct the information from the original and reproduce a contract text typical of the clear responsibilities,strict structure in the form of the target language,guided by the theory of functional equivalence theory.
