Complex Sentence Grounding:Continuum Hypothesis

英语复句入场是指一个定式小句通过从属连词入场元素转为从属分句,即陆标,从关系类中"标明"一个具体关系实例,为另一个定式小句言语事件,即射体的发生或潜在发生提供参与者或认知参照,勾画一个有事理关系复杂言语事件。本文的研究表明,英语复句入场存在不同程度张力,体现在射体对陆标越控能力和陆标相对独立性两个维度上,具有连续统特征。研究结果为中国英语学习者习得英语各类复句构式提供认知理据。

Complex sentence grounding refers to the fact that one finite clause is changed into another clause(which is termed as"the landmark")with subordinator grounding elements,"marking"a specific instance of relationship among types of relationship,and provides the participant or cognitive reference for the occurrence or potential occurrence of the other finite clause event,the trajector,in order to profile a complicated event with a logical relationship.The present study argues that in complex sentence grounding,there exists different degrees of tension with a continuum,embodying in the two dimensions:the power of the trajector overriding the landmark and the relative independentability of the landmark.The findings are crucially helpful for English learners of Chinese to acquire the constructions of English complex sentences with cognitive evidence.
