A.S.Byatt's Possession, with its re-imagination of the Victorian era, constitutes an in-depth study of prevalent contemporary materialization and its aftermath of intellectual identity crises.Following the critical vein of material culture studies, this article focuses on the collecting practice of contemporary British intellectuals and explores the intricate relationship between their motive for collecting and their identity construction. The article also examines how the writer deftly reflects on British history and cultural identity through an array of collecting practices by intellectuals.
