元话语和评价系统在人际意义研究上的互补 被引量:16

The Complementarities of Metadiscourse and the APPRAISAL System in the Study of Interpersonal Meaning

摘要 人际意义是语言使用者在交际过程中通过语言体现自身话语角色和进行评价时所涉及的一种语言意义。人际交往和社会实践中充满着人际意义。承载人际交往和社会实践的语篇是大语篇。大语篇中的人际意义是一个值得研究的课题。马丁的评价系统和海兰德的元话语强调大语篇中潜在读者/听者的角色和对话性,二者都研究大语篇中的人际意义。但是,二者在人际意义体现上存在差异。本文基于系统功能语言学中人际意义的体现特征,讨论元话语和评价系统对人际意义的体现,探索二者在人际意义研究方面的互补,对进一步完善大语篇人际意义的研究具有推进意义。研究发现,元话语资源可以补足评价资源对话语角色的凸显,评价资源则可以补足元话语资源对评价的传递。此外,元话语资源和评价资源在体现形式和呈现方式上也可以互相补足。 Interpersonal meaning is the meaning involved when language users use language to showtheir speech roles and make evaluation in communication.It exists in human interaction and social practice,which is generally realized by big discourse.Therefore,the interpersonal meaning in big discourse is a topic worth studying.The APPRAISAL system proposed by Martin and the metadiscourse viewby Hyland study the interpersonal meaning in big discourse by highlighting the roles of readers/listeners and the dialogicity of big discourse.However,they are different in realizing interpersonal meaning.On the basis of the realization features of interpersonal meaning in Systemic Functional Linguistics,this paper,studies the complementarities of metadiscourse and the APPRAISAL system with the aim to improve the interpersonal meaning study in big discourse.It finds that metadiscourse complements the APPRAISAL system by giving prominence to speech roles and the APPRAISAL system complements metadiscoursse in terms of language evaluation.Moreover,the language resources of metadiscourse and the APPRAISAL system complement each other in their ways to realize and present interpersonal meaning.
