Contradictions Behind Conflicts:An Analysis on The Contradiction of Williams′ Thoughts in A Streetcar Named Desire

从田纳西·威廉斯在《欲望号街车》中塑造的人物入手,分析威廉斯在作品中表现的矛盾性思想,并从社会历史文化角度和威廉斯个人经历分析其矛盾性思想的成因。威廉斯在《欲望号街车》中呈现了新南方与旧南方、男性与女性、同性恋者与异性恋者之间的矛盾与冲突,但他在这三组矛盾背后所传达的思想却充满矛盾性,让人捉摸不透,然而结合剧本的创作社会背景和威廉斯个人经历便会发现矛盾性中的合理性。

Starting from Tennessee Williams,this paper will analyze Williams′contradictory thoughts manifested in A Streetcar Named Desire and elaborate the causes behind the contradictory thoughts from the perspective of society,history,culture and Williams′personal experience.Williams presents the conflict between new south and old south,male and female,heterosexuals and homosexuals in A Streetcar Named Desire and his thoughts behind those conflicts are contradictory and confusing,but an analysis on the social background where the play was written and Williams′personal experience will reveal the rationality behind the contradictions.
