王国维受西方学术理论的影响,认为中国的戏曲应当是与诗词歌赋等在同一层次的新文体,遂作《宋元戏曲史》。此书逻辑清晰严谨,从横纵两条线分析论证了中国戏曲的发生、发展及成型,系统地阐释他对古代戏曲思想的研究,总结了戏曲理论。具有划时代的显著意义。整本书从创作初衷、创作思路都与近代文学进化论的观点相呼应。

Influenced by western academic theories,Wang Guowei believed that Chinese opera should be taken as a new style at the same level as poetry,lyrics and Fu,and then wrote The History of Song and Yuan Opera.This book demon⁃strates clear and precise logic,sorting out the occurrence,development and formation of Chinese opera from the horizontal and vertical lines.In this book,he systematically explained the study of ancient opera thoughts and summarized the theo⁃ries of opera.It has epoch-making significance.The author’s original intention for writing this book and his creative ideas are in line with the point of view of modern literary evolution.
