The progressive concept is an important concept that affects human existence and development. In the modern society where risks are increasing and disasters are occurring frequently, the traditional concept of progress based on historical objectivity has fallen. In order to save the progressive concept, the progressists of ethics try to limit the legitimacy of the progressive concept to the principle of ethical reflection, based on the human value orientation of seeking progress, but they fall into the trap of value dogmatism and subjectivism. From the perspective of disaster, the key to rebuild the progressive concept is to abandon the way of understanding this concept from the separation of subject and object and binary opposition.Starting from the dialectical relationship between the suffering of the proletariat and its role as the bearer of social progress and human liberation,Mayxist view of progress takes into account both the progressive orientation of the subject and the fact that history is full of disasters. It clarifies the dialectical relationship between disaster and progress and points out the way for us to rebuild the progressive concept.
