《森太太》中,莎丽是一个重要的叙事元素。莎丽的穿着能够表明印度女性所特有的身份意识。文章由印度传统服饰—莎丽为切入点,采用身份认同理论,分析《森太太》中莎丽与现代服饰、莎丽与姓名以及莎丽与汽车的关系,讨论服饰在维护印度人文化身份建构中的作用及造成的隔膜,折射出美印两种文化交融的过程中,少数族裔所经历的身份及认同上的困境和苦闷,孤独及寂寞。在此种境况之下,加强人与人之间,国与国之间的相互理解是十分必要的。

In Mrs Sen,sari is an important narrative element.The clothing of sari can express the identity of Indian women.This novel takes India’s traditional costume sari as the breakthrough point,adopts the identity theory,analyzes the relationship between sari and modern garments,between sari and its name,between sari and the car,discuss the role of clothing in maintaining the construction of Indian cultural identity and the causing diaphragm,reflects the predicament and anguish,solitude and loneliness that ethnic minorities experience in the process of mixing the American and Indian cultures for cultural identity.Under such circumstances,it is necessary to strengthen mutual understanding between people and between countries.
