Summary of models and hypothesis on the formation and evolution of the South China Sea

南海是西太平洋的边缘海盆之一,其构造样式丰富、变形复杂。前人对南海的成因和演化开展过大量的工作,提出了不少假说或模型,但这些假说或模型均存在这样或那样的问题,表明模型对现象的包容性尚有局限。本文总结了有关南海边缘海成因的主要理论模型或假说,同时列出专家学者对这些模型或假说的质疑或争议。可望本文能为南海形成演化的深入研究提供帮助。

The South China Sea,which is one of the biggest marginal seas at the western Pacific Ocean,is of complex defbrmational structure and multifarious tectonic styles.A large number of models and hypothesis on the formation and evolution of the South China Sea have been put forward by many scientists who did a lot of researches on marginal seas.Some limitation exist in these models or/and hypothesis so no one could explain all of formational and evolutional phenomenon of marginal seas.The main and influential models and hypothesis are summarized,while a number of disputes are also listed in this paper,the purpose of which is to assist in intensive study of the marginal seas.
