Pragmatic Functions and Chinese-English Translation Strategies of Words with Chinese Characteristics

中国特色词汇是时代的产物,具有强烈的时代感和丰富的文化内涵。中国特色词汇的英译属于中国英语,是一种变体英语,在跨文化交际中起着重要的作用,具有促进功能和标记功能两大语用功能。在翻译的过程中,直译、直译加注释、意译的翻译策略可以达到促进功能,而运用音译、直译则可以实现中国特色词汇的标记功能。

Words with Chinese characteristics are the product of the times,with a strong sense of the times and rich cultural connotation.The English translation of the words,as a kind of English varieties,plays an important role in cross-cultural communication,which has two pragmatic functions:promoting function and marking function.In order to achieve the promoting function,literal translation,literal translation plus explanation,and free translation are usually applied while transliteration and literal translation are often adopted to reach the marking function.
