Chen Yi’s Contribution to the Gutian Conference

中共红四军七大没有正确解决领导层之间的争论问题。陈毅到上海后,向中共中央客观地汇报了红四军的情况和领导层之间存在的分歧问题,为中共中央正确解决红四军领导层之间的分歧问题提供了可靠依据,对全国各地红军的发展和共产国际调整指导中国革命方针产生了重要影响。陈毅代中共中央起草的《给红军第四军前委的指示信》,对于统一红四军党内的思想,开好古田会议起了重要作用。回到红四军后,陈毅积极传达中共中央九月来信和周恩来的指示,参加古田会议决议案的起草工作,作了废除肉刑和停止枪毙逃兵的报告,对强化部队军纪、清除军阀作风、密切红军官兵关系产生积极影响。

The Seventh National Congress of the CPC failed to correctly solve the disputes among the leadership of the Fourth Red Army.After arriving at Shanghai,Chen Yi objectively reported to the CPC Central Committee the situation of the Fourth Red Army and the disputes among the leadership,providing a reliable basis for the CPC Central Committee correctly solving the disputes and thus having an important impact on the development of the Red Army through out the country and on the Communist International’s instructions for the Chinese revolution.The Letter of Instructions to the Front Committee of the Fourth Red Army drafted by Chen Yi on behalf of the CPC Central Committee played an important role in unifying the mind of the Fourth Red Army and convening the Gutian Conference.After returning to the Fourth Red Army,Chen Yi actively conveyed the September Letter from the CPC Central Committee and the instructions from Zhou Enlai,participated in the drafting of the resolution of the Gutian Conference,and made a report on the abolition of corporal punishment and the shooting of deserters,which had a positive impact on strengthening the military discipline of the army,eliminating the warlord style and strengthening the relations between the Red Army officers and soldiers.
