The intimate association between Korean poet Lee Sung Jeok and the scholars of the late Qing Dynasty who joined the gatherings at Gu Yanwu Memorial Temple(Gu Ci Xiu Xi)has rich historical connotations.The profound affection among these literati contains the supports for each other in difficulties of life and the complex emotions brought by the great historical changes of East Asia in modern times.The scholars of late Qing Dynasty offered help to Lee for his poem creation and introduced him to the academic circles,while Lee Sung Jeok’s comments on the Qing poetry highlight the unique voice of Korean poetics in East Asian Chinese literature.It is obvious that the political ideology and literary thoughts of the scholars of Qing influenced Lee greatly as he paid more attention to the political situation and social practice.Moreover,his understanding of poetry and creation changed from respecting Tang Dynasty to Song Dynasty,and the contents of his poems become closer to the reality.
