MicroRNAs(miRNAs) are small noncoding RNAs and play an important role in development and return in HIV-1 infection. MiRNAs inhibit virus replication by targeting virus RNA directly or regulate viral accessory protein and cellar factors indirectly and it also promotes HIV infection by regulating T cell activation and proliferation. In this review, we focus on the biological functions to date of miRNAs in HIV-1 infection. The abnormal expression of miRNAs promotes viral infection or maintains latent infection according to various pathways. Further investigation into the relationship between miRNAs and the targets in HIV infectors will provide a new window for antiviral therapy of diseases.
