Kiran Desai was the winner of the Booker prize in 2006.Her prize-winning works The Inheritance of Loss tells the story of the survival of the people of post-independence India in the 1980s.The novel focuses on the interaction between the colonial edge and the imperial center around the two distinct urban Spaces of Kalimpong,Cambridge and New York, creating a series of“antithesis”character groups limited by ambiguous identities and cultural conflicts.Through the depiction of the imaginary relations between these characters and the exposure of the characters'lost destiny,Kiran Desai reveals the deep-rooted colonial hegemony in the daily life, cultural psychology and other aspects of Indian society in the context of globalization.
